This weekend off up to Marahau for Neil & Frans wedding. It was handy with work to be able to leave a little early (hurrah for flexi-time) as it’s quite a long drive up North.
Marahau is a lovely spot, just at the end (or the start) of the Abel Tasman walk. Quite a lot of the guests stayed in the campground (we did) and had a quick run / walk along the Abel Tasman on the Saturday morning before the weeding. Lots of silver ferns – you can see where they get their name..
Then in the afternoon they had a lovely ceremony on the beach. They’d made a circle and pathway out of stones. It was simple, but it was very lovely. Neil & Fran have been together for 10 years or so, travelled all over the place, had their house nuked in the earthquake and definitely come through it all stronger and still very much happy & smiling. It was fantastic to be able to share in the day with them.
After the ceremony it was a short walk back across the dunes to the café where we had one of the best dinners I’ve ever had.
Their menu was simple – there was none. The café staff said “we don’t do set menu’s… in the morning we’ll go to the market in Nelson and get what looks nice, sound like a plan?”. It certainly sounded like, and was, an excellent plan. The seafood dish they had was simply out of this world!
Then dancing until the wee hours – quite the active crowd this, I suspect the dance floor will need re-piling a few years sooner now ;)
All in all a lovely wedding – Congratulations Neil & Fran :)
