Irritating Irriwaddy Dolphins

Took a bus up to Kratie to see the rare Irrawaddy Dolphins. (not this one)

Met a nice cambodian on the bus. He’s from a town who’s nickname is Spiderville.. they eat big-old spiders there.. he has 3 tame ones. They feel hairy!

Really odd looking creatures, strange snub nose and REALLY shy. These ones do *not* come play in the bow wave of your boat. Fair enough really seeing as there are about 100 of them left and the locals used to fish by way of grenade…

Funnily enough, in the wet season there’d be *no water here* … none!

So our guide says anyway (no, the dolphins don’t learn to walk on land until the rains come, it is connected to the mekong, but this part is just flooded)

We did see the demmed elusive dophins.. and I got one on a video, but as it’s so far away all you can see is that *something* is breaking the surface!. They’re maddenning creatures really, they surface, cruise about, but as soon as you’ve got the camera ready – off they go again…

Oh, and I got a hat mum ;)

Had the MOST amazing lightning storm that evening.. a nice lady let us up on her balcony – and I got this one.. yay for a slightly manual digital camera!
